INTRO BLOG

Hi everyone. My name is Robert and I am an entrepreneur in the works.   As I attempt to get started on my own work from home business I have decided to keep track of my progress and share my experiences by updating daily (or maybe weekly) my trials and tribulations throughout this process.
So, to get started on the road to financial bliss and self-reliance I ordered the Google Home Business Kit off the internet.  I know there are a lot of gimmicks out there, but Google is such a reputable company that I figure they are a pretty safe bet for receiving a quality product.  And they actually have a free 2 week trial, so if I find I don’t like it, I’ll just send the kit back; no harm done.

FREE KITS

Today after a bit of internet surfing and perhaps a little too much time on my hands, I have sent away for 2 more free kits that I hope will help me get  my company going and profiting.  I don’t know about all of you, but here is my logic:  They look like half-decent products and more importantly they are free.  There is no danger to lose, but so much potential to gain, so at the risk of sounding redundant; why not?  One of these kits is the Google Marketing Kit to help me with the advertising side of things, and I also sent away for a free grant kit which is a program outlining all current grants, and information about them.
Also saw on CNN a whole bunch of businesses that were successful in gaining start-up grants from the federal government.  Check them out if you need some inspiration!

RECEIVING KITS

Today I received the Marketing Kit and Grant kit in the mail.  I still haven’t received the Business Kit that I applied for first, but then again these came really quickly.
The Grant Kit is not at all what I expected. It has very little useful information. Am feeling like I have been scammed.

GOOGLE BUSINESS KIT

Well, it has been a week and the Google Business Kit has just arrived (still not really sure why it arrived after the other 2, but hey that’s the US Postal Service for you).  I haven’t had the chance to thoroughly check the Kit out, though I did do a quick revision and it seems like it will be handy in getting my own business website up and running.  I will keep you posted on how I fare with the software.

MAKING WEBSITE

I have spent the last few days getting to know the Google kit, and my website is coming together without any hassle.  I am by no means a techy (actually used to be an accountant by trade) and this software posed absolutely no problems for me.

GRANT KIT

I have been steadily working on several grant applications with a new grant kit that I researched and then sent away for. This grant kit, unlike the other one, is awesome! I have decided from the tips offered in the kit, that the best way to go is to apply for a small business grant to help pay off the credit card debt that I have unfortunately accumulated over time and the remainder to cover start-up costs. I am hoping to get $ 10,000 although I think that might be a little ambitious. But, hey, you have to set your standards high! So I have pretty well finished the 3 applications and am going to mail them off today and keep my fingers crossed that I get a response.

SEO TRAFFIC

Well, for the time of year it’s difficult to get the business running full steam, as people are really focused on Christmas and just spending time with the family and with the economy like it is, they are not looking to spend much cash at all.  But if you can even believe it, I received another cheque in the mail from Google for $ 6,700. They are paying me for the search engine traffic I have generated. Christmas is sure looking up this year!

GRANT CHEQUE!

I hope everyone had a happy holiday.  I sure did!  I ate a ton of turkey and spent time with the family.  Couldn’t have asked for more!  But now it’s back to business.  I received another cheque from Google today for not quite as much as the last one, but still a substantial weekly salary!  I think the dip in revenue was due to the holidays and probably less people online.    But I am no longer commuting or working a 9-5 and am making more money.  It’s really UNBELIEVABLE!

Today I also received $ 10,000 from one of the grants that I applied for not even 2 weeks ago, and let me tell you it was the easiest money I have ever made. AND IT FEELS GREAT! I have already made a preliminary budget and will start first thing in the am.

Let me tell you that my wife is thrilled that we no longer have any financial debt and that we are going to have our own business. I am winning points with her, because not only does our potential income go up, I am going to have more face time with her and our two sons which I am glad about as well.

WORKAHOLIC

Things are starting to get back to normal with the holidays come and gone, but I have never been happier for January to come.  I’m not even concerned about the cold weather.  I have been working steadily at the online business, as I have come to the realization that the more hours I put into it the more money I make.  I think I went a little overboard this week, and as a result am in the doghouse with my wife for not spending enough family time.  But honestly she won’t be angry when she sees the next cheque we get! It’s going to be a big one!

Besides the hard work is starting to pay off! We just got rid of our old beat up car and bought our very own MERCEDES!!!

2009 TAX SEASON

Having brought in the New Year we have also brought in the 2009 tax season.  If you are not an organized small business owner this process can be a little overwhelming.  We small business owners have many deadlines to adhere to depending on structural variations of our companies.  I have included a link for deadlines and processes for tax filing, which even I as an accountant have found comprehensive and very useful.

CLAIMING EXPENSES

Now maybe it is just the accountant in me but I think that any home business owner is always looking to cut corners to maximize gains and what better way than saving your receipts.  I mean it is really that easy.  I was reading this article online where the author very nicely points out things you can claim that you never would have thought.  Did you know that you can claim furniture, gas, computer upgrades, and even coffee!  I have listed the link for you to check out!

OBAMA INAUGURATION

Alright today I want to talk about the inauguration of President Obama!  I am completely inspired by this man and think he is just what our country needs.  All over the media we are seeing news of the Obama bailout and crisis reforms and honestly I think that if anyone can bring reforms to our economy, he is our man!  Not to mention all of the incentives for small businesses like my own!  I am going to attempt to update everyone with the incentives pertinent to small businesses as they come up, so that we can all benefit from our new president’s hard work.

LOOKING UP!

So it has been exactly 2 months since I first applied for the 3 Kits and life has never looked brighter.  It’s ironic isn’t it?  In a time of penny pushing and economic crisis here in the US, my financial situation is getting better with each passing day.  That is not to say that we aren’t watching our money, because of course we are.  But we no longer have any debt; we are starting to save, and things just don’t seem so desolate.

DOGGIE BUSINESS

Now that we have our business underway and my wife has a little bit more free time, with the kids in school during the day, she has decided that she too wants her own business.  She is a huge dog lover (we actually have a very lovable golden retriever named Malcolm!) and has decided that since she walks Malcolm several times each day, why not extend her dog walking services to our community.  She approached me with the idea and I thought it was fantastic.
So the other day we put up signs advertising her services and have already heard back from 5 different families.  She is going to be charging $ 15 per dog for an hour long walk.  And just quickly crunching numbers, if she is walks five dogs at a time once or twice a day, this could be a daily supplemental income of $75- $150 daily and all tax free.
I wanted to share this because this idea is applicable to many lines of work such as home daycare services, or tutoring services.
We are loving this work for yourself business!

GRANT # 2

Well now, this past week I have been very busy, and both my wife and I dedicated to our respectful businesses.    Google continues to send us cheques for my approximate 20 hours of work weekly that I am putting into the online business and on top of that we have the dog walking and home based business starting to bring in steady income as well!
As we begin to accrue savings I have begun to research exactly where to put it so it’s safe and I can gain a decent amount of interest.  I think I will steer clear of stocks right now, and am looking at perhaps investing in real estate, with house prices dropping   it really is a buyer’s market.  But the main thing is that we want to maximize our investments while not leaving ourselves short of dollars in a crunch.  But yet again here is my line of thinking: Housing right now is more affordable than it has been in a long time, so if purchasing a house and the recession continues there will surely be people looking to rent.  And if the economic situation turns around, then the value of housing will start to climb again and we will maximize our gains if we sell.
And actually because the first grant worked out so well.  I am looking at applying for a housing grant to help cover hopefully half of the house down payment.
As always will keep you posted.

APPROVED!

You probably won’t believe it but I was approved yet again for a grant.  This time of course it was for the down payment for the house we are investing in.  We received a $ 15,000 cheque in the mail, and having already found the house we want, we are headed to the mortgage brokers to seal the deal!

NEW LOANS AVAILABLE

Alright, while my life is a bit dreamlike right now, I do understand that not all small business owners are in the same boat and I am truly sorry for that.  But I do want to share with you an article I read on the CNN website today that talks about loans being offered to small businesses as a result of new Obama initiatives. In fact you could receive a government loan up to $35,000 with minimal interest and no payments on the loan for a year afterwards.
Again I have provided the link for you to read up!

BOUGHT A HOUSE

After over a week of haggling with banks and real estate agents, we officially own our new property.  Now the task is finding renters and ASAP to make sure that we don’t get stuck paying the monthly mortgage payments.  The idea with this house is that the renters more than cover the mortgage payments and we hopefully pocket anything additional.  Am posting some ads on Craigslist and in the local newspaper today, and hopefully we will get some bites.

but i sure would like to correspond with an authenic
service that i could apply for a goverment grant. I
am curently un-employed, having spent 42 years in the
car business, both as a dealer, or general manager. I
need to be able to earn some income honestly.
